Fluorescence hyperspectral LIDAR imaging has been used for the remote surface diagnostics and documentation of monumental cultural heritage for some decades. Recently, research at METEORS lab has been focusing on information integration with other techniques, in order to enhance information content as well as the exploitation potential of the LIDAR data, also in different application fields like railway infrastructures. This contribution briefly outlines the basics about the technique, its main applications and the latest advancements, including the integration with fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy, which further boosts the capabilities of the fluorescence LIDAR technique for the characterization of materials.
