This year is the 80th anniversary of the Nobel Prize to Enrico Fermi, in recognition of his outstanding experimental discoveries. The research leading to them, carried out with his group in the mid-thirties of the last century at the Physics Institute of Via Panisperna in Rome, will be illustrated, starting from a lost and recently regained notebook of Fermi, where the actual discovery of neutron-induced radioactivity is duly documented. This extraordinary research was the preamble to Fermi's achievements later on, after the 1938 Nobel Prize, in the United States.
