WIMPs, Weekly Interacting Massive Particles with masses between 1 GeV and 10 TeV, might be the constituents of cosmological dark matter. During the last twenty years, experiments aiming at direct detection of these particles have gained 6 orders of magnitude in sensitivity, yet there is no solid evidence of their existence. I will review the main technologies and experimental results and discuss future directions.
