Medical image processing plays a fundamental role in the study of CNS with important implications in the analysis of the neural and vascular networks relationships as well as on pre-clinical investigations about neurodegenerative pathologies. Nonetheless, the multi-scale nature of vessels and nerve fibres, the presence of image noise and of strong contrast inhomogeneities, still represents major obstacles to an accurate and computational efficient image segmentation. In this work, we report the implementation of a 3D filter for the enhancement of a tubular structure applied to XrPCmT images of an ex-vivo healthy and pathological mouse spinal cord.
