A new and original approach in the study of the molecular assemblies is to apply an advanced integrated system obtained by coupling a standard atomic force microscope (AFM) and a stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscope. We studied the aggregation process of pathological and non-pathological peptides obtaining super-resolution fluorescence images, perfectly overlapped with AFM topography. This new kind of analysis highlights some important features on the mechanisms followed by the labelled and unlabelled proteins through their aggregation pathway.
