X-band technology is rapidly expanding due to its great potential, already shown in different areas of particle acceleration. This technology is also becoming very attractive in the field of X-ray FELs and compact photon sources. In terms of capabilities, it has been already demonstrated the possibility to operate 12 GHz, normal conducting accelerating structures with gradients higher than 100 MV/m (CLIC project at CERN). Moreover, the use of X-band structures for diagnostics and beam manipulation at FEL linacs is continuously evolving (SLAC, PSI, ELETTRA). Here, a selection of projects based on the the X-band technology, as well as the main applications at different International Laboratories, is reported.
