Five years of medical physics activities at the proton therapy centre in Trento.

The proton therapy facility in Trento is treating patients since October 2014. Over the past years the medical physics activities focused on: 1) Experimental beam characterization to assess the beam properties, $(e.g.$ range accuracy, spot size and positioning accuracy). A beam model was then validated to enable dose calculation for patient treatments. 2) Development of treatment techniques, $e.g.$ to treat moving targets, handle metallic implants and take full advantage of beam delivery via pencil beam scanning. 3) Research activities, mainly on quantitative analysis of treatment outcomes but also on the dedicated fixed lines for biology and physics experiments.
