Virtual Clinical Trials allow to conduct experiments using computer simulations and methods, for validating new clinical imaging systems or techniques. Within a collaboration among the Universities of California Davis (USA), Varna (Bulgaria) and Naples, we have printed the first physical phantoms with the real anatomy, shape and composition of patient's breast as derived from breast computed tomography scans at UC Davis. We show a 3D uncompressed breast phantom printed by using 3 different materials (PVA, ABS and Nylon respectively simulating the attenuation of skin, adipose and glandular tissue at 45 keV) and a mammographic phantom simulating a compressed breast.
