Analytical techniques based on the use of ion beams with energies in the 1-10 MeV range are widely used in different research fields from Archaeological Sciences, Cultural Heritage Diagnostics to Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences. We review recent instrumental developments at the Center for Applied Physics, Dating and Diagnostics (CEDAD) at the University of Salento in AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) radiocarbon dating and Ion Beam Analysis. In particular, the high potential of a new gas accepting ion source used in combination with an IRMS (Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry) system is presented through the discussion of case studies and recent results.
