The August 26, 2018 geomagnetic storm: a multi-instrumental analysis from CSES satellite and ground magnetometers

On August 25--28 2018, a severe geomagnetic storm (GS) occurred with $D^{st}$ minimum of approximately $-200$ nT. This work presents how the magnetosphere-ionosphere system was affected during the geomagnetic storm. The interplanetary conditions, the magnetospheric response in terms of the magnetopause motion, and the ionospheric current flow pattern were investigated using data respectively from the WIND spacecraft, GOES, CSES and INTERMAGNET magnetometer array. In addition, during the entire GS a unique depiction of the ionospheric response to the GS has been performed through the multi-instrument analysis of the electromagnetic, plasma density and particle data on board CSES.
