Recently, layered materials such as 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted high interest due to their peculiar properties which make them appealing for potential applications in gas sensing, photocatalysis, optical and electronic devices and energy storage. Here we report on an enhanced preparation method comprising mechanical and liquid phase exfoliation techniques to design a simple, scalable, reproducible and high yield exfoliation methodology to produce few-layer $WS_{2}$. Beside the microstructural analysis, a particular attention has been paid to the chemical composition of the exfoliated flakes in the light of their spontaneous oxidation.
