The High-Energy Particle Detector (HEPD) is an instrument devoted to the measurement of particles from few MeV up to hundreds of MeV. It has been developed by the Italian Limadou Collaboration in the framework of the CSES (China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite) space mission. The HEPD will contribute to the mission by measuring the precipitation of Van Allen particles and by studying the solar-terrestrial environment, especially during impulsive events like CMEs and SEPs. This work reports the main performance of HEPD estimated by Monte Carlo simulations, pre-launch beam test analysis and calibration results using different methods (beam tests, Monte Carlo digitization procedure, range).
